Spay and Neuter Services at Potlatch Veterinary Clinic
Potlatch Veterinary Clinic is committed to providing affordable spay and neuter services for both cats and dogs. Every pet undergoes a thorough pre-surgical exam, and our veterinary technicians closely monitor anesthesia throughout the procedure. We ensure every dog and cat receives pain medication for comfort, and female animals, as well as male dogs, are given an IV catheter prior to surgery at no additional cost. Most surgery patients are discharged on the same day unless otherwise requested by the owner.
Why Spay or Neuter Your Pet?
Spaying or neutering is essential to preventing serious health and behavioral issues. Unspayed females are at higher risk of mammary cancer, emergency pyometras, and unwanted pregnancies, which can lead to costly complications. Unneutered males face a higher risk of testicular cancer, prostate issues, and undesirable behaviors.
When Should You Spay or Neuter Your Pet?
The recommended age for spaying or neutering is generally around 4-6 months. However, specific breeds, genders, and lifestyles may require adjustments to this timeline. Our veterinarians will work with you to determine the best time for your pet’s procedure to support their overall health.
Soft Tissue Surgery at Potlatch Veterinary Clinic
Our clinic is equipped to perform a wide range of soft tissue surgeries in a dedicated surgical suite, using state-of-the-art equipment. Pets undergoing general anesthesia are closely monitored by both a veterinary technician and an anesthesia monitoring machine, which tracks vitals such as heart rate, EKG, respiratory rate, oxygen levels, CO2 levels, blood pressure, and temperature.
Types of Soft Tissue Surgeries We Offer:
- Laceration repair
- C-sections
- Mass removal
- Exploratory laparotomy
- Pyometra treatment
- Cystotomy (bladder surgery)
Orthopedic Surgery at Potlatch Veterinary Clinic
We offer select orthopedic surgeries, including FHO (femoral head ostectomy) for hip displacements and limb amputations when necessary. For more complex orthopedic surgeries, we can provide referrals to specialized veterinary surgeons in the region.
What treatment options are there for hip dislocation?
If your pet has a dislocated hip, there are several treatment options, including hip replacement (depending on timing), FHO, or a total hip replacement. Schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians to discuss the best option for your pet.
How do pets cope with limb amputation?
Pets typically adapt well to limb amputations. After recovery, they can continue to run, jump, and play as usual, maintaining a high quality of life.
